PORTLAND, Ore. — The Trail Blazers have secured two key pieces of their rebuild, reaching long-term agreements with guard Shaedon Sharpe and forward Toumani Camara.

Trail Blazers

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Sharpe, the No. 7 pick in the 2022 draft, accepted a four-year, $90 million rookie-scale extension that runs through the 2028-29 season. The 20-year-old averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists last year, though his three-point rate slipped to 31.1 percent and head coach Chauncey Billups briefly benched him for defensive lapses.

Portland also finalized a five-year, $82 million extension with Camara. The 25-year-old started all 78 games as a rookie, averaged 11.3 points and 5.8 rebounds, hit 37.5 percent from beyond the arc, finished in the league’s top 10 in total steals and earned All-Defensive Second Team honors. The new contract replaces his 2026-27 team option.

The flurry of moves continued with a two-way deal for 6-foot-6 guard Javonte Cooke, who averaged 17.0 points and 5.0 rebounds for the G League’s Oklahoma City Blue last season. Cooke joins Caleb Love and Sidy Cissoko as Portland’s three two-way players.

Lakers

Backup center Jaxson Hayes suffered a mild right wrist sprain Friday but told reporters he expects to be available on opening night, according to Dan Woike of The Athletic. Hayes, 24, is slated to back up Deandre Ayton after starting a career-high 35 games last season. He also said he is pursuing Slovenian citizenship to potentially play internationally with teammate Luka Doncic, noting that “our families have been talking about it for a while.”

Heat

The Miami Heat converted guard Jahmir Young’s Exhibit 10 contract into a two-way agreement following a strong training camp. “I just want to bring 100 percent every day and help the team,” the 23-year-old said. Head coach Erik Spoelstra lauded Young’s quickness and ability to get into the paint, calling him “tough to guard in camp.”

Miami waived Precious Achiuwa to remain below the luxury-tax threshold. Achiuwa averaged 4.8 points and 5.3 rebounds in preseason and is expected to draw interest from other clubs.
