The Chicago Bulls have waived two-way guard Yuki Kawamura and will replace him with wing Trentyn Flowers, the organization announced Friday.
The move to release Kawamura was disclosed at 5:33 p.m. CT, with the team citing a medical condition. The 5-foot-8 Japanese point guard had been sidelined earlier in the preseason because of pain in his right lower leg. Kawamura, 24, joined Chicago on a two-way contract after impressing during Summer League play. Last season he appeared in 22 games for Memphis, averaging 4.2 minutes, while posting 12.7 points and 8.5 assists in 31 contests with the G League’s Memphis Hustle.
Agents Mike Silverman and Troy Payne told ESPN’s Shams Charania that Flowers will fill the newly opened two-way slot. The 6-foot-7 forward officially became a Bull at 7:10 p.m. CT, according to the team. Flowers, 20, spent the 2024-25 campaign on a two-way deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, logging 27 NBA minutes across six appearances and playing 42 games for the club’s G League affiliate in San Diego. He averaged 17.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 30.7 minutes for San Diego, shooting 47.5% from the field and 38.5% from three-point range.
Los Angeles extended Flowers a two-way qualifying offer in June that carried an $85,300 partial guarantee, but he was waived earlier this week and cleared waivers to become an unrestricted free agent.
Chicago will have 18 players under contract once Flowers’ agreement is finalized.
