The president of the Boston Celtics delivered an upbeat assessment of the franchise’s outlook on Aug. 8, 2025, even as All-Star forward Jayson Tatum continues to recover from an Achilles injury.
Addressing reporters, the executive said Tatum’s rehabilitation is progressing and emphasized that the organization expects to stay highly competitive during the star player’s absence. He added that the club’s current roster depth should help absorb the short-term loss of its leading scorer.
The president did not provide a specific timetable for Tatum’s return but noted that the medical staff is “encouraged” by the forward’s ongoing recovery. Tatum, 27, sustained the Achilles injury earlier this offseason and has been limited to individual workouts while the team prepares for training camp.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Tatum’s availability for the opening weeks of the 2025-26 season, the president expressed confidence that Boston can maintain its championship ambitions. “We’re built to compete regardless,” he said, pointing to offseason additions and internal development as reasons the Celtics expect to remain at the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
