The Boston Celtics have signed head coach Joe Mazzulla to a new multiyear contract, the team announced on August 8.
“We are very excited that Joe has agreed to extend with the Celtics,” president of basketball operations Brad Stevens said in the release. Stevens praised Mazzulla’s “passion for the Celtics” and noted that the coach has averaged more than 60 wins per season while guiding Boston to the 2024 NBA championship.
Mazzulla, 36, originally joined the organization as an assistant in 2019. He was elevated to head coach just before the 2022-23 campaign after Ime Udoka’s suspension and was later confirmed as the permanent coach.
Across his first three seasons, Mazzulla has compiled a 182-64 regular-season record (.740), posting win totals of 57, 64 and 61, respectively. His playoff mark stands at 33-17, highlighted by the 2024 title run. He finished third in NBA Coach of the Year voting in 2022-23 and fourth in 2023-24.
The upcoming 2025-26 season presents new challenges. Boston reshaped its roster to reduce salary after exceeding the second tax apron last year, moving on from Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis. In addition, star forward Jayson Tatum is expected to miss most or all of the campaign while recovering from a torn Achilles.

Mazzulla will be tasked with extracting maximum performance from a retooled roster as he enters his fourth season at the helm.
