Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo told a Greek late-night program that he hopes to play for a club in his homeland before retiring, underscoring his long-standing ties to Greece.

During an appearance on The 2night Show, the 30-year-old forward said he envisions himself remaining in the NBA for several more seasons but ultimately returning overseas. “I can play in the NBA until I’m 36, 38,” Antetokounmpo said. “I’d like to finish my career on a Greek team… As soon as I leave the NBA, I want to return to Greece.” He mentioned several possibilities, including Filathlitikos, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and Aris.

Antetokounmpo spent 2011-13 with Filathlitikos before being selected in the 2013 draft and has consistently represented Greece in international competition. Last month he described winning a EuroBasket bronze medal with the national team this summer as his proudest athletic achievement, ranking it above his NBA championship and two Most Valuable Player awards.

Whether he ultimately joins a Greek club may hinge on how the Bucks perform over the next few seasons. Milwaukee has bowed out in the first round each year since 2023, and Antetokounmpo has said that chasing another title is more important than spending his entire career with one franchise. The 2025/26 campaign, following three straight early exits, could play a major role in his decision as he approaches a potential contract year.
