The Utah Jazz waived guard Max Abmas and forward Cameron McGriff on Tuesday, October 14, the club announced in a press release. Both players were on non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contracts.
Abmas and McGriff signed with Utah on October 6 and were on the roster for the team’s first three preseason games, though neither appeared on the court.
Abmas, 23, spent the 2024-25 campaign with the Salt Lake City Stars, the Jazz’s G League affiliate. He averaged 13.8 points, 4.8 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 26.4 minutes over 50 games, shooting 41.2% from the field, 37.2% from three and 83.6% from the foul line.
McGriff, 28, has played professionally since going undrafted out of Oklahoma State in 2020. His résumé includes stints in Belgium, Puerto Rico, Greece and France, along with time in the G League. He appeared in three NBA games with Portland on a 10-day contract during the 2021-22 season and spent last season with the Indiana Mad Ants before his returning rights were traded to Salt Lake City this summer.
Both players are expected to report to the Stars as returning-rights players. Each would earn an $85,300 bonus by staying with the G League club for at least 60 days.
With the moves, Utah has two openings on its 21-man preseason roster. One of those spots is expected to go to forward Pedro Bradshaw on an Exhibit 10 deal.
