The Los Angeles Lakers have tapped into the city’s baseball talent to help launch the 2025-26 NBA season, unveiling a pair of promotional spots that feature several Los Angeles Dodgers standouts.

The primary video, titled “Forever Iconic: Purple and Gold Always,” was released this week and is directed by Natalia Bryant, the eldest daughter of Kobe and Vanessa Bryant. Alongside Lakers figures such as LeBron James, Luka Doncic and Magic Johnson, the piece shows two-way Dodgers sensation Shohei Ohtani taking batting‐practice swings while wearing a Lakers cap.

Shortly after the initial release, the Lakers posted a second clip on social media—dated Oct. 10, 2025—that spotlights Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman and outfielder Mookie Betts. Both players don purple-and-gold caps as they go through pre-game drills at Dodger Stadium.

Ohtani and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, attended a Lakers game on Dec. 8, 2024, receiving custom jerseys during their visit to Crypto.com Arena. Betts has also been a frequent courtside guest since joining the Dodgers, a connection that has occasionally drawn LeBron James to Dodgers home games.

The cross-promotion highlights the longstanding partnership between two of Los Angeles’ most prominent franchises. That bond deepened earlier this year when Dodgers principal owner Mark Walter reached an agreement to purchase the Lakers from the Buss family. Walter, who has overseen the Dodgers since 2012 under Guggenheim Baseball Management, has guided the club to 13 consecutive postseason appearances and two World Series titles.

In a behind-the-scenes segment, Natalia Bryant described the filmmaking process as “an amazing, collaborative environment” aimed at showcasing the Lakers’ global influence. “Everyone has their own connection to the Lakers,” she said, expressing hope that longtime supporters feel renewed pride and that new viewers are inspired to join the fan base.
