LeBron James working daily despite nerve irritation, JJ Redick says

Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick said star forward LeBron James has been on the practice floor “every day” while he continues to manage a lingering nerve issue that first surfaced in midsummer.

“We knew that he was dealing with the nerve irritation,” Redick told reporters, according to the Orange County Register. “You hope that he’s back soon. Those things can be tricky.”

The Lakers have listed the 40-year-old as out with left-side sciatica and expect him to miss at least the opening weeks of the regular season. ESPN previously reported that the discomfort began in late July or early August and interrupted James’s usual offseason regimen.

Redick added that the absence has not altered the club’s preseason plans. He also highlighted improved on-court communication during scrimmages, citing exchanges such as “good screen,” “good pass,” and “I got you next time” as examples of what he called the team’s “championship language.”

In addition, center Adou Thiero and forward Maxi Kleber remain limited in practice, and no timetable has been given for their returns, The Athletic’s Jovan Buha reported.
