SACRAMENTO — Kings forward Keegan Murray left Friday’s exhibition game against the Trail Blazers after injuring his left thumb, the club confirmed. The second-year wing scored nine points and collected five rebounds in 16 minutes before being ruled out for the second half.
The severity of the injury has not been disclosed, and early indications point to a cautious approach rather than a long-term setback. Murray is eligible for a rookie-scale extension through Oct. 20, giving Sacramento little incentive to rush his return.
One positive development for the Kings came from veteran big man Dario Šarić, who knocked down all four of his three-point attempts and finished with 14 points in 14 minutes. The performance could strengthen his case for a rotation role after limited action last season in Denver.
Magic
Orlando’s new backcourt combination of Tyus Jones and Desmond Bane started together for the second straight outing, joining Franz Wagner, Paolo Banchero and Wendell Carter Jr. in the opening lineup. The group powered a 30-point victory over Philadelphia.
Carter dominated inside, registering 20 points and 13 rebounds in only 21 minutes. Head coach Jamahl Mosley applauded the center’s leadership and physical presence, noting that his rim protection alters the team’s style of play.
The Magic’s second unit featured rookies Anthony Black, Jase Richardson, Jett Howard and Tristan Da Silva alongside Goga Bitadze, underscoring the club’s blend of experience and upside.
Hornets
No. 2 overall pick Brandon Miller said he likes the confidence and competitiveness he’s seeing from rookie wing Kon Knueppel. Drafted fourth in June, Knueppel has drawn early praise for his poise and energy as Charlotte adds a second consecutive top-five wing to its roster.
