LOS ANGELES — Eight months after arriving from the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic marked the early days of training camp by giving every teammate a pair of his new Luka 4 signature shoes.
The gesture took place as the Lakers gathered at the UCLA Health Training Center on Sept. 29, 2025, for media day and the first week of workouts. Doncic, 26, said the gift was meant to show appreciation and help strengthen locker-room ties ahead of the Oct. 21 season opener.
Team officials confirmed each player received the custom sneakers, adding that Doncic has also organized other bonding activities. Earlier in the offseason, the four-time All-NBA guard hosted a Porsche driving event where players tested exotic cars. He was also involved in recruiting center Deandre Ayton and guard Marcus Smart to Los Angeles.
After battling lower-body injuries in recent seasons, Doncic spent the summer working into what coaches described as “top shape” for a full 82-game schedule and a potential Most Valuable Player campaign. Head coach Darvin Ham said the new additions and team-building efforts “show Luka is fully invested in leading this group.”
The Lakers continue camp without LeBron James, who is sidelined by sciatica. Despite the 40-year-old star’s uncertain timetable, Doncic and guard Austin Reaves have privately told team officials they hope to share the court with James for as long as possible, according to a team source.
Los Angeles opens the regular season at home on Oct. 21.
