Sacramento, Calif. — Newly hired general manager Scott Perry said his first order of business with the Sacramento Kings is establishing a clear identity built on six principles: competitiveness, toughness, teamwork, professionalism, accountability and discipline. “I want the community, opposing teams, media, and everyone to know what you can expect from us, win, lose or draw,” Perry told SacObserver.com.
To help implement that vision, Perry brought in longtime friend B.J. Armstrong as assistant general manager. He cited Armstrong’s combined experience as an NBA player, player agent and front-office executive as a key asset while Sacramento works to “establish a new identity.” Perry, one of the league’s few Black GMs, added that representation matters: “I want kids who look like me to dream and aspire, and say, ‘He’s doing it, I can do it too.’”
San Francisco — Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said on The TK Show with Tim Kawakami that neither he nor the organization is in a rush to finalize a contract extension. “I just want to make sure everything feels right, for me, for the players, for them,” Kerr explained, noting that coaching jobs can reach an “expiration date.”
Kerr also rejected speculation that this season represents a “last dance” for the core of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler. “This is more of a traditional NBA situation where you’ve got some aging stars and you’re just trying to be good for as long as you can,” he said. “None of us have any idea if that’s one year, two more, three more. This definitely is not the last dance.”
Portland, Ore. — Trail Blazers center Robert Williams remains limited to non-contact work and has not yet been cleared for full practice, head coach Chauncey Billups told reporters. Despite the restriction, Billups said the organization is “very happy” with Williams’s progress. The 26-year-old big man has appeared in only 26 games since arriving in Portland two years ago because of ongoing health issues.
