Knicks
The New York Knicks are actively testing trade options for second-year wing Pacome Dadiet, Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reported. According to multiple league sources, New York placed Dadiet in the starting lineup for Thursday’s preseason opener to increase his visibility to potential suitors. Dealing the 21-year-old would give the front office room to keep two veteran training-camp invitees instead of one.
Malcolm Brogdon and Landry Shamet remain the frontrunners for those spots, but Fischer noted that Garrison Mathews is receiving serious consideration. Because Mathews and Shamet offer similar perimeter shooting, Mathews would more likely threaten Shamet’s place on the roster than Brogdon’s if he stays.
Rockets
The Houston Rockets are prioritizing an extension for forward Tari Eason before engaging in negotiations with 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant, Fischer wrote. Reaching terms with Eason first would clarify Houston’s salary structure ahead of any commitment to Durant. The projected agreement for Eason is expected to cover four years at an annual figure below the $24.4 million average that Jabari Smith Jr. secured earlier in the offseason.
Hawks
Early rookie-scale extension discussions between the Atlanta Hawks and guard Dyson Daniels are described as having “some distance,” per Fischer. Daniels is coming off a breakout campaign in which he captured Most Improved Player honors and finished second in Defensive Player of the Year voting, factors that are expected to drive his asking price upward. Talks are ongoing with no agreement imminent.
