CHICAGO — Guard Josh Giddey said his recent contract negotiations with the Chicago Bulls were “never contentious,” even though discussions extended into September. The 22-year-old Australian formally re-signed this week on a four-year, $100 million deal as a restricted free agent.
“It’s a negotiation, and that’s how it goes,” Giddey told reporters on October 2. “This is where I always wanted to be, and now I’m locked in for another four years.” He added that securing the agreement lifts “a pretty big weight” because he will not have to think about a new contract until 2029.
White Plans to Test Market
Backcourt teammate Coby White, 25, has informed the Bulls he does not expect to sign an extension before reaching unrestricted free agency next summer. The guard cited league rules that limit what Chicago can currently offer. “I’m thinking about now and how I can help my team win,” White said, emphasizing that he still values his relationship with the front office, head coach Billy Donovan, and his teammates.
Jones Chooses Stability
Reserve point guard Tre Jones opted to remain in Chicago, agreeing to a three-year, $24 million contract. “I didn’t want to think about going anywhere else,” the 25-year-old said after finalizing the deal.
Williams Targets Improvement
Forward Patrick Williams, entering his sixth NBA season, spent the offseason shedding weight and building lean muscle. The 23-year-old said the physical changes were motivated by dissatisfaction with his performance in 2024-25 and a desire to “be better” in the upcoming campaign.
The Bulls open training camp this week with Giddey secured through 2029, White poised to enter free agency in July 2026, Jones under contract through 2028, and Williams looking to translate his new physique into on-court results.
