Sacramento guard Malik Monk confirmed he was involved in trade talks that would have shipped him to Golden State for forward Jonathan Kuminga. According to the Sacramento Bee, the Warriors backed away because they did not want to assume Monk’s deal, which runs through the 2027-28 season and includes a player option.
Monk said he is unfazed by the rumors and remains committed to the Kings. “My support system is amazing,” he told reporters, adding that new general manager Scott Perry spoke with him directly before talks heated up. “That’s being professional. A lot of GMs don’t do that, so I thank Scott for that.”
Warriors
Kuminga’s freshly signed two-year contract keeps him eligible to be traded after mid-January and contains a team option, fueling continued speculation about his long-term future. Head coach Steve Kerr said he understands the forward’s push for favorable terms.
“I never begrudge any player for trying to get the best contract that he can,” Kerr noted. He added that he kept in regular contact with Kuminga over the summer and trusts the 21-year-old’s professionalism: “He’s not that guy to come in and tear a team down.”
Suns
The Phoenix Suns have exercised their 2026-27 rookie-scale team option on second-year wing Ryan Dunn, locking in a $2.78 million salary for next season. Selected 28th overall in the 2024 draft, Dunn appeared in 74 games (44 starts) as a rookie, averaging 6.9 points and 3.6 rebounds while shooting 43 percent from the floor.
Though his perimeter shooting remains a work in progress, Dunn has already drawn praise for his defense and is expected to battle Royce O’Neale for a starting role when training camp opens.
