Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray said Monday that he intends to hit at least 40 percent of his three-point attempts this season and position himself for the NBA’s Most Improved Player award.

The 23-year-old started all 76 games for Sacramento in 2024-25 but averaged 12.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.9 blocks and 0.8 steals while shooting 34.3 percent from deep. His best perimeter season came as a rookie in 2022-23, when he converted 41.1 percent of 6.3 tries per game; he owns a career mark of 37.2 percent. Murray is eligible to sign a rookie-scale extension through Oct. 20 and said contract talks are in his agent’s hands.

Coaching responsibilities defined

Interim head coach Doug Christie, who took over late last season, outlined his bench assignments Monday. Assistant Mike Miller will coordinate the offense, while fellow assistant Bobby Jackson leads the defense, Christie told reporters.

Front-office additions

The Kings announced several basketball-operations hires, many of whom previously worked with general manager Scott Perry during his time with the New York Knicks. The arrivals include director of pro player personnel Fred Cofield, director of college scouting John Halas, and vice president of data science and planning Tom Perry.

DeRozan reflects on last season’s turmoil

Veteran forward DeMar DeRozan acknowledged that the team’s turbulent 2024-25 campaign—which featured a coaching change and multiple trades, including the departure of All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox—was difficult for players to navigate. “There was just a lot of stuff going on that internally we tried to fight through,” DeRozan said. Entering the second year of a three-season, $73.9 million contract, the 36-year-old averaged 22.2 points, 4.4 assists and 3.9 rebounds on .477/.328/.857 shooting in 77 appearances last year.
