Jimmy Butler arrived at the Golden State Warriors’ 2025 media day on Monday, Sept. 29, without the theatrical hairstyle that has become a yearly talking point.
“I’m here. Normal hair. No shenanigans,” the forward told reporters, putting an end — at least for now — to speculation about what he might unveil this time.
Butler’s media-day transformations have been a running subplot in recent seasons. In 2023 he straightened his hair, added an eyebrow piercing and debuted the persona dubbed “emo Jimmy.” The year before, he surprised fans with ombré faux locs that prompted jokes about offseason hair growth. Last year, guesses ranged from a mohawk to an ’80s-style mullet.
This week, however, Butler said the theatrics are only on pause. When asked if “emo Jimmy” could return, he replied, “You might see him, but you won’t see him up here for a media day.”
He added that teammate Buddy Hield is campaigning for the character’s comeback. “Buddy for some off reason loves ‘emo Jimmy,’” Butler said. “So for his sake, I think we’ll show up to practice one day.”
For now, fans will have to wait for a Warriors practice to find out whether the alter ego makes good on Butler’s tease.
