HOUSTON — Kevin Durant told reporters at Rockets media day that he intends to sign a new deal with the franchise less than three months after arriving from Phoenix.

“I do see myself signing a contract extension,” the 37-year-old forward said, noting he could not specify when an agreement might be finalized.

Durant is currently eligible for a two-year, $119.1 million extension tied to the projected 2026-27 salary cap, a figure that could increase to $120.85 million in January. League sources have indicated Houston is hesitant to offer a full maximum contract covering Durant’s age-38 and age-39 seasons, and a shorter package in the $100 million range has been discussed.

The veteran added that Houston’s rapid improvement made the club one of his preferred destinations when the Suns placed him on the trade market. “Just seeing the quick progression of this franchise — it felt organic and natural,” he said. “I always had respect for this coaching staff, this fan base, this state, this city.”

Mavericks

DALLAS — Center Anthony Davis will wear protective eyewear for the remainder of his career after undergoing surgery in July to repair a detached retina in his right eye, a doctor-mandated precaution he confirmed ahead of training camp.

The 32-year-old, entering the first season of a three-year, $175 million extension, said his vision is clear despite ongoing eye-drop treatment that has left visible redness. Davis played through several facial blows last year, including a corneal abrasion to his left eye while still with the Lakers.

Acquired in February in the Luka Doncic blockbuster, Davis logged only nine games for Dallas last season due to an adductor strain but averaged 20.0 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.2 blocks.

Hornets

CHARLOTTE — Hornets president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson said rookie forward Brandon Miller is fully cleared for training camp after January wrist surgery ended his first season prematurely.

Peterson added that forward Grant Williams (knee) and guard Josh Green (shoulder) are expected to miss the entirety of camp while continuing post-surgery rehabilitation.
