Golden State Warriors restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga did not fly to San Francisco over the weekend and will be absent from the team’s media day on Monday, according to ESPN’s Anthony Slater and Shams Charania.

The reporters said general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. spoke with Kuminga’s representative, Aaron Turner, on Sunday, but no progress was made toward a new deal or the forward’s return ahead of Tuesday’s first training-camp practice.

Multiple Contract Offers Rejected

Golden State has presented three different proposals, all declined by the 21-year-old:

  • Three years, $75.2 million, third-year team option (guaranteed $48.3 million over the first two seasons)
  • Two years, $45 million, second-year team option
  • Three years, $54 million, no options

If Kuminga signs the one-year, $7.9 million qualifying offer that expires Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. ET, he would secure a no-trade clause and unrestricted free agency in 2025 but forfeit more than $40 million in guaranteed salary over the next two years.

Recent Absence and Roster Moves

Last week, Kuminga skipped a Warriors offseason minicamp organized by teammate Jimmy Butler, Charania reported on NBA Today.

The stalemate has not stopped Golden State from making other moves. On Sunday, the club reached a multi-year agreement with veteran center Al Horford and finalized deals with guards Gary Payton II and DeAnthony Melton. Second-round pick Will Richard also signed, giving the Warriors 13 players under contract; Kuminga could become the 14th.

The front office has held discussions with free-agent guard Seth Curry, but the structure of a potential Kuminga contract will determine whether the team can stay under the second tax apron while adding a 15th player, Slater and Charania noted.

Golden State opens the preseason on Oct. 5 against the Los Angeles Lakers and begins the 2025-26 regular season on Oct. 21, also against the Lakers.
