Pelinka Expects Smooth Transition as Mark Walter Nears Lakers Takeover

Los Angeles Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said he does not foresee major organizational shifts when Los Angeles Dodgers owner Mark Walter officially acquires the NBA team from Jeanie Buss and the Buss family.

The sale is awaiting approval by the NBA Board of Governors and is expected to be ratified within the next few months. Walter will become the franchise’s new controlling owner while Buss remains team governor, overseeing daily operations.

Mark is an incredibly exciting leader … he has a strong level of belief in the operations of this place, led by Jeanie Buss … and I don’t see there being big changes,” Pelinka told reporters during a recent press conference.

Walter is widely credited with transforming the Dodgers into a perennial contender over the past decade. However, Pelinka indicated the incoming owner values continuity and is taking an intentionally measured approach rather than installing an entirely new front-office structure.

The Lakers’ brass — including Walter, Buss, Pelinka, head coach JJ Redick, and stars Luka Doncic and LeBron James — share the goal of returning the franchise to championship contention, Pelinka added.

Redick Agrees to Extension

Pelinka also announced that the Lakers have signed Redick to a contract extension after just one season on the bench, underscoring the club’s commitment to stability under the incoming ownership.
