Portland Trail Blazers guard Scoot Henderson suffered a torn left hamstring during a workout earlier this week, the team announced Friday.
The Blazers said the 21-year-old is projected to resume basketball activities in four to eight weeks. The statement did not set a timetable for his return to game action, making it unlikely he will be available when Portland opens its 2025-26 campaign.
Henderson, selected No. 3 overall in the 2023 NBA Draft after two seasons with the G League Ignite, averaged 14.0 points, 5.4 assists and 3.1 rebounds as a rookie. In his second year, he appeared in 66 games mostly off the bench, improving his efficiency to a .419/.354/.767 shooting line while reducing turnovers.
Portland’s backcourt was already thin after re-signing longtime star Damian Lillard, who became a free agent when Milwaukee waived him following an Achilles tear suffered in last spring’s playoffs. With Henderson sidelined, newly acquired Jrue Holiday and second-year guard Blake Wesley are candidates to see increased minutes at point guard.
The Blazers said they will release further updates on Henderson’s recovery “as appropriate.”
