The Brooklyn Nets have signed free-agent center Moritz Wagner to a two-year deal worth $19 million, the club announced on July 31.
Initial terms were reported on July 1 by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. The agreement includes a mutual option for the 2027-28 season; either the player or the team can exercise the option, and both sides would have to decline it for Wagner to reach free agency in 2027.
Wagner, 29, spent the past four seasons with the Orlando Magic after joining the roster midway through the 2020-21 campaign. His progress was interrupted by a torn ACL in his left knee in December 2024, but he returned last season to appear in 36 games, averaging 6.9 points and 3.6 rebounds in 11.9 minutes. He logged only 13 minutes in the 2026 playoffs, all in garbage time, while Orlando pursued other frontcourt options and ultimately signed Nikola Vucevic in free agency.
In Brooklyn, Wagner enters a frontcourt undergoing major changes. With Nic Claxton departing for Chicago, the 6-foot-11 German will compete with second-year center Danny Wolf and veteran Day’Ron Sharpe for minutes at the five and could see time at power forward behind Julius Randle.
Cap analyst Yossi Gozlan estimates the Nets can still open just under $25 million in salary-cap space—assuming one of their recent additions is finalized with the room mid-level exception—but the club no longer has the flexibility to extend a maximum offer of $41.2 million to another free agent.
