Giannis Antetokounmpo says Miami move was about leaving comfort zone

Miami, FL – Giannis Antetokounmpo said his decision to depart Milwaukee after 13 seasons and join the Miami Heat was driven by a desire to escape complacency and test himself in a new setting.
In a behind-the-scenes YouTube video that followed his first day with the Heat, the two-time NBA MVP told assistant coach Caron Butler he needed unfamiliar surroundings to “bring the best out of me.”
“I think I need this. I really do,” Antetokounmpo said. “Sometimes when you’re in a comfort zone … I need to wake up to new faces, new people that I don’t know.”
The forward emphasized that winning another NBA championship remains his top priority. The video opens with Antetokounmpo discussing that goal before cameras follow him inside Kaseya Center, where he greeted coaches and future teammates.
Butler urged the veteran to arrive in Miami well ahead of training camp so he can establish himself as a leader. Antetokounmpo agreed, noting he wants a full grasp of the team’s systems before practices begin.
“First of all, I’m doing it for me,” he said. “I want to know what’s going on – offense, defense – so when training camp comes, I’m almost ahead of them. If I don’t know the offense, I cannot talk to my teammates.”
Antetokounmpo acknowledged that adjusting to a new franchise after spending his entire career in Milwaukee will take time, but he welcomed the challenge.
