Wendell Moore Jr. Weighs Offer from Roma SPQR Amid EuroLeague Pursuit

Free-agent swingman Wendell Moore Jr. is leaning toward joining Italian club BC Roma SPQR, sources told Luka Pavlovic of Basketball Sphere.
Serbian powerhouse Partizan Belgrade and Israeli side Hapoel Tel Aviv had already entered advanced talks with the 24-year-old, and at least one of those teams reportedly put a higher salary on the table. However, Pavlovic reports that Roma SPQR’s long-term vision—highlighted by future participation in Italy’s Serie A and the 2026-27 EuroCup—has positioned the club as Moore’s preferred destination.
Former Mavericks general manager Donnie Nelson—now a co-owner of Roma SPQR alongside Lakers star Luka Doncic—has played a significant role in luring Moore to the Italian capital. The organization is also targeting several former and one active NBA head coaches while seeking inclusion in the NBA’s planned European league projected for the 2027-28 season.
Selected 26th overall in the 2022 NBA Draft after three seasons at Duke, Moore has logged 96 NBA appearances with Minnesota, Charlotte and Detroit, averaging 2.3 points and 1.4 rebounds in 8.2 minutes. Last season he spent most of the year on a two-way deal with the Detroit Pistons, but averaged 19.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.7 steals across 32 G League games for the Motor City Cruise while shooting 50.9% from the field, 38.8% from three and 80.8% at the line.
Moore’s final decision has not been announced, but Roma SPQR is currently viewed as the frontrunner.
