Golden State’s front office made multiple high-profile overtures this summer but exited Las Vegas with no blockbuster in hand, according to reporting from Brett Siegel.
Trade bids for Davis and Brown rejected
Team sources said the Warriors contacted the Washington Wizards about center Anthony Davis, hoping the move might boost their efforts to land free-agent forward LeBron James, a former teammate of Davis and fellow Klutch Sports client. Washington’s asking price was labeled “unreasonable,” and discussions ended quickly.
Golden State also inquired about Jaylen Brown, but the Boston Celtics were uninterested in any proposal and refused to negotiate. League sources noted the Warriors were prepared to include Jimmy Butler and draft capital in packages for either Davis or Brown, despite previously keeping Butler out of trade talks.
LeBron James looks east
During the first week of the Las Vegas Summer League, it became apparent that James intended to sign with an Eastern Conference club rather than remain close to his Southern California home. Although he spoke by phone with Stephen Curry and met in person with Draymond Green, James reportedly concluded Golden State lacked sufficient scoring depth and was unwilling to wait for Butler’s return from an ACL tear.
Offer for Trey Murphy III falls short
The Warriors approached the New Orleans Pelicans multiple times with an offer of two first-round picks for forward Trey Murphy III. New Orleans continues to seek three first-rounders plus a young core player, terms Golden State cannot meet.
Curry, Green contract options
Curry’s $62.6 million deal expires after the upcoming season, and he becomes extension-eligible on August 6. Siegel reports the two-time MVP will be able to “name his price” on a one- or two-year extension. Green, who declined a $27.7 million player option, could re-sign for that same one-year figure or negotiate a multiyear pact that aligns his timeline with Curry and head coach Steve Kerr.
