Cameron Carr Shines During Lakers’ Las Vegas Summer League Run

LAS VEGAS — Rookie guard Cameron Carr made an immediate impact in his first professional action, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to the semifinals of the 2026 NBA Summer League at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Selected 24th overall after the Lakers traded up one spot in June’s draft, Carr appeared in four games in Las Vegas and averaged 18.0 points and 2.2 rebounds. The 6-foot-6 guard displayed a versatile offensive package, scoring off the dribble, finishing through traffic, cutting without the ball and converting jumpers coming off screens. He also pushed the pace in transition and recorded several weak-side blocks on defense.
Efficiency was Carr’s lone concern in Vegas: he connected on just 19.2% of his three-point attempts. Team officials attributed the dip to a minor thumb injury on his shooting hand. Earlier in the California Classic, he shot 40.9% from long range in three contests, reinforcing confidence in his perimeter touch.
Carr’s next challenge is securing minutes under first-year head coach JJ Redick. He will compete with recent signings Ziaire Williams and Matisse Thybulle, along with fellow Summer League wing Adou Thiero. Carr has acknowledged that consistent defense and reliable spot-up shooting are his clearest paths to a rookie-year role.
With Summer League concluded, the 20-year-old said he is focused on continuing his development before training camp opens this fall.
