Anthony Davis and the Washington Wizards are not expected to accelerate talks on a new contract before the star forward becomes extension-eligible on Aug. 6, according to reporter Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson.
A league source familiar with the discussions told Robinson the organization is “in no hurry,” and Davis shares that stance. The 10-time All-Star is entering a deal that carries a player option following the 2026-27 season, giving both sides multiple years before any decision becomes urgent.
Focus stays on upcoming season
Washington acquired Davis from the Dallas Mavericks in February, but a leg injury kept him from debuting with the Wizards last season. The 31-year-old has since declared he intends to appear in all 82 games in 2024-25 and predicted the team will top 40 wins.
Davis also backed No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa as his choice for Rookie of the Year. The forward joins a retooled core that now features Davis, guard Trae Young and Dybantsa as Washington attempts to climb the Eastern Conference standings after an active offseason.
For now, both Davis and the Wizards are content to concentrate on the floor rather than the negotiating table, Robinson reported.
