Golden State fans received a glimmer of hope this week when Klay Thompson declined to rule out a reunion with the Warriors.
During an appearance at Fanatics Fest, a fan told the veteran guard, “We miss you on the Warriors.” Thompson replied, “Never say never,” according to a TikTok video captured by user la_tinapr and reposted by Legion Hoops on July 19, 2026.
The brief exchange quickly fueled speculation about whether the four-time NBA champion might return to Golden State after his current deal with the Dallas Mavericks expires. Thompson, 36, signed a three-year, $50 million contract with Dallas in the summer of 2024 and is now entering the final season of that agreement, putting him on track for free agency next offseason.
Thompson spent his first 13 NBA seasons with the Warriors, helping the franchise capture titles in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022. While his three-word answer falls well short of a commitment, it was enough to reignite talk of a possible return to the Bay Area.
The Mavericks are scheduled to open training camp later this fall, at which point Thompson is expected to address his future in more detail. For now, “Never say never” is all Warriors supporters needed to hear.
