The Dallas Mavericks have released Tyler Smith, according to the NBA’s official transaction log. The move, first reported by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, opens one of the team’s three two-way roster slots.
Smith, 21, was taken by the Milwaukee Bucks with the 33rd pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. Milwaukee parted ways with the 6-foot-10 forward just before the 2025/26 season despite his guaranteed contract, citing a roster crunch.
After a brief stint on a two-way deal with the Houston Rockets that ended in early January, Smith signed a two-year, two-way contract with Dallas in late February.
As a rookie with Milwaukee in 2024/25, Smith appeared in 23 games and averaged 2.9 points and 1.1 rebounds in 5.3 minutes. He logged 12 games for Dallas late last season, posting 4.7 points and 2.8 boards in 13.8 minutes while shooting 42.0% from the field and 28.6% from three-point range.
Smith also saw action in 33 G League contests during the 2025/26 campaign with Capital City Go-Go, Rio Grande Valley Vipers and Texas Legends, averaging 13.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.0 steal across 26.7 minutes.
With Smith’s departure, the Mavericks have one open two-way slot. Guards John Poulakidas and Tobi Lawal occupy the other two-way positions.
