The Memphis Grizzlies have struck a deal to bring free-agent shooting guard Charlie Brown Jr. onto their roster, agent Eric Brest of Seros Partners told Michael Scotto of HoopsHype on Tuesday.
Brown, 28, entered free agency after spending last season with Raptors 905 in the NBA G League. In 21 regular-season appearances, he averaged 12.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists, while matching a league record with nine steals in a single game.
The 6-foot-6 guard was part of a three-team trade last October that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks and landed Brown in Charlotte. The Hornets released him before Opening Night, prompting his move to the G League.
Since going undrafted out of Saint Joseph’s University in 2019, Brown has logged 49 NBA games with five different clubs. His only league action after the 2021-22 campaign came in 2023-24, when he played eight games for the Knicks on a two-way contract.
Brown owns four years of NBA service, making him ineligible for another two-way slot. Memphis is expected to sign him to an Exhibit 10 contract, which would allow a bonus of up to $85,300 if he is waived and then spends at least 60 days with the franchise’s G League affiliate, the Memphis Hustle.
The Grizzlies currently sit at the offseason limit of 21 players, meaning another transaction will be necessary before Brown’s agreement can become official.
