The Philadelphia 76ers will return to a familiar look this season, bringing back the black uniforms worn during their 2000-01 run to the NBA Finals. The team announced the Hardwood Classic Edition jerseys on Wednesday, marking the 25th anniversary of both its Eastern Conference championship and Allen Iverson’s MVP campaign, when he averaged a league-best 31 points per game.
The throwback set debuts on Nov. 8, when the 76ers host the Toronto Raptors, and will appear in 14 additional home dates along with six road games against clubs that reached the 2001 playoffs. Philadelphia last used the all-black design between 1997 and 2009.
The uniform features “Sixers” across the chest with a star dotting the “i,” a sweeping basketball underline and the “76” logo on the shorts, mirroring the style worn by Iverson and Defensive Player of the Year Dikembe Mutombo during the 56-26 campaign that ended with a five-game Finals loss to the Los Angeles Lakers—still the franchise’s most recent Finals appearance.
“Some of my favorite memories came when I was wearing this uniform,” former guard Eric Snow said in a statement. “Even now, I still meet people who talk about the passion they had for our team and that run.”
Chief operating officer Lara Price added that the jersey “represents an era of franchise history that embraced a distinct identity and captured the attention of the entire city.” The club also revealed a matching classic-edition court that will be used for select games.
