The Cleveland Cavaliers have locked in All-NBA guard Donovan Mitchell with a new four-year maximum extension projected at roughly $273 million, the club announced. The agreement replaces the player option in Mitchell’s previous deal and secures him through the 2029-30 season, with a player option for 2030-31.

President of basketball operations Koby Altman said Mitchell has fully embraced the franchise, its fan base and the city since his arrival two years ago. Altman credited the 27-year-old’s leadership, intensity and professionalism as key factors in cementing the organization’s culture and long-term ambitions.

This is the second extension Mitchell has signed since Cleveland acquired him from the Utah Jazz in 2022. The guard is coming off another All-NBA campaign after averaging 27.9 points, 5.7 assists and 4.5 rebounds while guiding the Cavaliers to their first Eastern Conference finals appearance since 2018.

With Mitchell’s contract finalized, Cleveland turns its focus to the remainder of the offseason. League sources still expect James Harden to finalize a new deal, and the Cavaliers continue to be linked to free agent forward LeBron James.
