The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to a one-year contract with free-agent center Thomas Bryant, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.
The move gives Cleveland 14 standard contracts heading into training camp, which begins next Tuesday, Sept. 30, in Florida. Bryant is expected to provide front-court relief for starting center Jarrett Allen and power forward Evan Mobley.
Bryant, 28, stands 6-foot-10 and split last season between the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers. In 66 total games, he averaged 6.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and shot 50.8 percent from the field. Charania noted that the veteran served as a key reserve during Indiana’s second-half run to the Finals and is entering his ninth NBA season.
Before committing to Cleveland, Bryant worked out for the New York Knicks, who ultimately prioritized backcourt depth despite reportedly being impressed by his audition.
