The New York Knicks have been linked to veteran guard DeMar DeRozan, but concerns about his compatibility with the team’s identity persist, according to Sports Illustrated’s Kento Kato. While DeRozan would add a proven shot-creator, his limited three-point range, rebounding and defense contrast with the qualities that fueled New York’s recent championship run. Kato also questioned whether the 17-year veteran would accept an inconsistent bench role, noting that preserving roster chemistry could outweigh the appeal of another marquee name.
Nuggets
Reigning MVP Nikola Jokic told reporters he hopes to play his entire career with the Denver Nuggets. “My desire is to play the rest of my life in Denver,” he said. Logan Struck of Sports Illustrated reported that Jokic plans to wait until next summer to negotiate a new contract, a decision that places additional pressure on the front office to keep a title-caliber roster around him after this year’s first-round playoff exit. Denver’s offseason additions have been modest so far, heightening the importance of continued success to secure the center’s long-term future.
Hornets
The Charlotte Hornets completed several offseason actions, finalizing their trade with the Houston Rockets for forward Dorian Finney-Smith and three future second-round picks, Schuyler Callihan of Sports Illustrated wrote. The club also made Coby White’s three-year, $74 million contract official; the former Bulls guard is expected to take over as starting point guard following the LaMelo Ball trade. In addition, Charlotte signed first-round selections Hannes Steinbach and Christian Anderson Jr. to rookie deals. Two other major trades remain pending, after which the Hornets’ roster overhaul is expected to be nearly complete.
