Donovan Mitchell is staying in Cleveland. The All-Star guard has agreed to a four-year maximum contract extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.

The deal is projected at roughly $273 million. It eliminates the player option in Mitchell’s previous contract, keeping him under team control through the 2029-30 season and giving him a new player option for 2030-31.

This is the second time Mitchell has formally committed to the Cavaliers since arriving from the Utah Jazz in a 2022 blockbuster trade. Early speculation about a possible departure has faded, replaced by a player who has repeatedly voiced confidence in the organization’s championship ambitions.

According to Charania, Mitchell has been active in offseason discussions with the front office and has backed the team’s efforts to strengthen the roster.

The Cavaliers’ summer has been relatively quiet to date. Cleveland selected Meleek Thomas in the second round of the NBA Draft and re-signed center Thomas Bryant. James Harden is still expected to finalize a new contract after declining his player option, and the Cavaliers continue to surface in rumors surrounding a potential pursuit of LeBron James.

Mitchell is coming off a standout campaign in which he averaged 27.9 points per game, earned All-NBA Second Team honors and helped steer Cleveland to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in his career.

With their franchise cornerstone secured once more, the Cavaliers now turn their attention to rounding out the roster in pursuit of the club’s next NBA title run.
