LeBron James has yet to reveal his next move, and six franchises reportedly think they still have a realistic chance to secure his signature.
On the “ALL NBA” podcast, veteran reporter Marc Stein said the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets remain confident they are firmly in the hunt for the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.
James, a four-time MVP, informed the Los Angeles Lakers he would explore other options earlier in the offseason. His agent, Rich Paul, later told reporters that 27 of the league’s other 29 teams reached out after that announcement. Stein’s latest remarks narrow the list to six clubs that believe their odds are more than remote.
Salary-cap maneuvering is expected to play a decisive role. League executives widely assume that most contenders will need James to accept a veteran-minimum deal unless they can shed contracts. According to Stein, the Cavaliers and Warriors possess paths to create additional flexibility, while the 76ers, Heat, Timberwolves and Nuggets would likely have to clear space before presenting a larger offer.
With no timetable set for a decision, the six teams mentioned continue to position themselves in hopes of landing one of the game’s most influential players.
