Cavaliers to Add Veteran Center Thomas Bryant on One-Year Contract

The Cleveland Cavaliers are set to sign 6-foot-10 center Thomas Bryant to a one-year deal, Hoops Wire reported Friday.

Bryant, 27, is expected to fill the backup role behind starters Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley, giving head coach Kenny Atkinson a frontcourt option capable of contributing extended minutes or stepping in as an occasional starter. Known for his physical play, willingness to battle in the paint and ability to hit mid-range jumpers, Bryant adds the size and toughness team president Koby Altman publicly said the roster needed after last season.

The reported move continues an offseason trend that has seen Cleveland target experienced, hard-nosed players. The club has already added forward Larry Nance Jr. and guard Lonzo Ball, provided Ball can remain healthy. With those additions, the Cavaliers believe they are better prepared for the postseason than a year ago, when they finished 64-18.

An opposing scout told Hoops Wire he would pick Cleveland to win the championship even before news of Bryant’s impending arrival. The veteran center’s presence further deepens a roster that aims to match the physicality of playoff opponents.

Bryant’s contract is reportedly for one season. The Cavaliers have not yet announced the agreement.
