New York forward Josh Hart told reporters during the Knicks’ media day on Tuesday that he re-aggravated the right ring-finger injury repaired in July and will probably wear a splint throughout the 2025/26 season. The 30-year-old hopes to postpone further treatment until next summer, though he conceded he might address the issue sooner if it limits his play.

“I hate playing with anything on my hands,” Hart said. “It might take a little getting used to, but that’s the best-case scenario.”

Additional media day notes

Karl-Anthony Towns disputed a June report that he had offseason procedures on his finger and knee, explaining he only received treatment and did not undergo surgery.

First-year head coach Mike Brown stated it is “too early” to finalize a starting lineup but anticipates using a nine- or 10-man rotation.

Several players thanked former coach Tom Thibodeau for his impact on the organization. “It’s sad to see a man I’ve known for a long time part ways with this organization,” guard Jalen Brunson said. “He’s meant a lot to my career.”

Mikal Bridges, who signed a four-year extension this summer worth $150 million—about $6 million below his maximum—said he accepted less “because I want to win bad” and believed a smaller deal would benefit the team.
