Former Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis offered a rare public reaction on July 1, 2026, when he responded with laughing emojis to a social-media post that criticized Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka.
The post, written by online personality Cuffs the Legend, questioned Pelinka’s handling of both Davis and LeBron James. Davis replied without adding any words, signaling no objection to the critique.
Davis was dealt to the Dallas Mavericks earlier this offseason in the blockbuster trade that brought Luka Doncic to Los Angeles. The move ended Davis’s four-year tenure with the Lakers and initiated a roster overhaul built around Doncic.
During his time in Los Angeles, Davis repeatedly requested that the front office acquire a traditional center so he would not have to play the position full-time. Although the Lakers occasionally added supplementary big men, they never paired him with a full-time starting center. The franchise has since traded for Walker Kessler, a move aimed at complementing Doncic rather than appeasing Davis.
The Lakers have also reached agreements with forward Sandro Mamukelashvili and guards Quentin Grimes and Collin Sexton as part of an active free-agency period.
Davis has previously stated that the trade to Dallas was not a surprise to league insiders and that he has moved on, yet his latest social-media response suggests lingering frustration over how the departure unfolded.
