The Washington Wizards have shown interest in bringing back veteran guard Russell Westbrook, according to a report from Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of the Stein Line.

Westbrook, 37, spent the 2020-21 campaign in Washington before being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. The former MVP played last season with the Sacramento Kings, appearing in 64 games and averaging 15.2 points, 6.7 assists and 5.4 rebounds.

The nine-time All-Star is currently an unrestricted free agent. League sources told the Stein Line that Washington is exploring experienced options to balance a roster expected to be led by Trae Young, Anthony Davis and No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa in the upcoming season.

While no agreement is imminent, the Wizards view Westbrook’s attacking style and reputation for professionalism as potential assets for a young locker room. The Kings credited him with steady leadership during a turbulent 2025-26 season.

Whether discussions progress toward a contract remains uncertain, but Washington’s interest signals the franchise’s intention to add veteran voices ahead of training camp.
