The Portland Trail Blazers are finalizing a deal to add Mike Williams to Micah Nori’s inaugural coaching staff, according to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.
Williams, 34, began his NBA career in 2018 as a player development intern with Portland before moving to the Washington Wizards in a similar capacity. He later spent three seasons as head coach of the Wizards’ G League affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go, and has served as an assistant coach with the Utah Jazz since 2023.
The Blazers interviewed Williams during their recent head-coaching search, and sources told HoopsHype that he left a strong impression on team officials. Nori ultimately landed the top job, and Williams will now return to Portland in a supporting role.
The franchise is also reportedly considering longtime NBA assistant and former head coach Jay Triano for another spot on Nori’s bench as staff construction continues.
