Knicks weighing options to retain Jordan Clarkson under new salary cap constraints
SLUG: knicks-consider-retaining-jordan-clarkson-under-second-apron
The New York Knicks are still exploring ways to keep guard Jordan Clarkson on the roster despite the NBA’s looming second-apron restrictions, a team source said on June 28, 2026.
According to the source, club executives believe there remains “a pathway” to re-sign Clarkson without violating the harsher spending limits that take effect next season. The second apron, introduced in the league’s most recent collective bargaining agreement, further penalizes teams that exceed the upper luxury-tax threshold.
No formal proposal has been submitted, and the Knicks have not disclosed which contracts could be moved or restructured to create space. The front office is expected to continue evaluating trade scenarios and potential cost-cutting moves before the start of free agency.
Clarkson, 34, averaged 17.1 points in 74 games last season after arriving in a mid-season deal. He is eligible for a new contract in July.
