Boston — Celtics wing Jaylen Brown rejected a recent analytics-driven evaluation of his game on Saturday, responding to comments made by ESPN cap analyst Bobby Marks during an appearance on NBA Radio’s SiriusXM channel.

Marks said he had spoken with an unnamed analytics specialist who rated Brown as “the seventh-best player on a team.” Brown answered on X, formerly Twitter, writing, “Analytics nowadays used to discredit and control narratives … Roll the ball out none of these guys better than me on both ends who does he work for.”

The three-time All-Star followed with additional posts highlighting his résumé, noting, “Nobody has won more combined regular season and playoff games since I entered the league 10 years ago,” and adding, “Analytics have / are ruining the game we playing AI hoops.”

Portland Pieces in Play

With Brown frequently mentioned in trade rumors, Brian Robb of MassLive reported that the Trail Blazers are among the most active suitors. According to Robb, Portland would not include forward Deni Avdija and is hesitant to move rookie center Donovan Clingan because of limited depth at the position.

A workable offer is expected to start with Jerami Grant’s $34.2 million salary for matching purposes, paired with one of the team’s young guards—either Scoot Henderson or Shaedon Sharpe. Boston is also expected to ask about forward Toumani Camara, who is signed for four more seasons on a low-cost deal. The number and quality of draft picks Portland is willing to surrender will likely determine how far talks progress, Robb added.

Option Decisions Approaching

Robb noted that Boston faces a straightforward offseason on team options. Center Neemias Queta ($2.7 million) and forward Jordan Walsh ($2.4 million) are both projected to remain on the 15-man roster. Guard Dalano Banton ($2.8 million), rookie big man Amari Williams ($2.2 million), and guard Max Shulga ($2.2 million) hold non-guaranteed contracts.

Isaiah Thomas Active in Draft Room

Former Celtics All-Star Isaiah Thomas, who joined the club’s scouting staff in May, delivered the team’s second-round selection during Wednesday’s draft. Thomas phoned in the choice of forward Dillon Mitchell at No. 40 overall, according to Souichi Terada of MassLive.
