Nets, Day’Ron Sharpe Postpone Team-Option Deadline to Monday

The Brooklyn Nets and Day’Ron Sharpe have shifted the decision date on the forward/center’s $6.25 million team option for next season from Sunday to Monday, according to Brian Lewis of the New York Post. The 24-year-old’s agreement provides the front office an additional day to weigh its roster and salary-cap plans.

Sharpe is projected to take on a larger role in 2026-27, making it improbable that Brooklyn will decline the option and let him enter free agency. League sources recently indicated that his growth influenced the club’s choice to trade Nic Claxton to Chicago in a three-team deal that returned Julius Randle from Minnesota. The Nets are also believed to be considering a long-term contract for Sharpe.

In 62 games last season, including seven starts, Sharpe posted career highs with 8.7 points and 6.7 rebounds over 18.7 minutes per game while shooting 60.1 percent from the field. His perimeter game remains limited; he hit 23.1 percent of his three-point attempts and launched roughly one every other outing.

Selected 29th overall in the 2021 draft and acquired from Phoenix on draft night, Sharpe is now the longest-tenured player on a roster that has undergone frequent changes in recent years.

The Nets have additional option decisions to finalize, which may explain the need for the extra day. Brooklyn holds team options on Ziaire Williams ($6.25 million), Josh Minott ($2.58 million) and Malachi Smith ($2.15 million) for next season.
