Several NBA clubs finalized roster moves Monday, highlighted by guard Coby White’s new deal with the Charlotte Hornets, a fresh contract for veteran center Al Horford in Golden State, and a Summer League invitation for undrafted forward William Kyle with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Hornets Keep Coby White
Charlotte secured White on a three-year, $74 million agreement, according to ESPN. The 24-year-old arrived from Chicago at February’s trade deadline and averaged 15.6 points over 21 games in a Hornets uniform. His return comes one day after Charlotte sent LaMelo Ball to Minnesota, positioning White as a primary backcourt option alongside No. 2 overall pick Brandon Miller, rookie Kon Knueppel and newly acquired center Naz Reid. League sources said Detroit and Brooklyn also showed interest before White chose to remain with the Hornets.
Warriors Retain Al Horford
Horford, who turned 40 earlier this month, declined his player option and instead accepted a two-year contract worth $14 million with the Warriors, ESPN reported. The five-time All-Star averaged 8.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists during his first season in the Bay Area. Should he complete the new deal, Horford will become the 13th player in NBA history to appear in at least 20 seasons. “If the group is healthy, we’re going to compete,” Horford said while expressing confidence in Golden State’s championship aspirations.
Lakers Add William Kyle
Los Angeles continued to bolster its Summer League roster by signing former Syracuse big man William Kyle to an Exhibit 10 contract, per ESPN. The 6-foot-10 forward averaged 8.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.5 blocks last season after previous stops at South Dakota State and UCLA. The non-guaranteed deal grants Kyle a training-camp audition and the possibility of converting the pact into a two-way contract with a strong showing.
