The Atlanta Hawks and veteran guard Buddy Hield have agreed to postpone the full-guarantee date on his $9.7 million contract, according to NBA reporter Chris Haynes. The clause had been set to trigger on June 25.
Hield joined Atlanta in a midseason move after opening the year with Golden State and saw limited action across seven games in a Hawks uniform. Since then, the club has added more backcourt depth by acquiring Aaron Wiggins and selecting Kingston Flemings with the No. 8 pick in the draft.
The agreement gives both the franchise and the 33-year-old sharpshooter additional time to evaluate next steps. Atlanta can keep Hield as a proven perimeter scorer off the bench or use his salary in potential trades; the full amount would convey if he is moved. If the team ultimately releases him, the guard is still guaranteed $3 million.
For now, the two sides continue to assess their options before settling on a final decision.
