The Los Angeles Lakers have secured guard Austin Reaves on a four-year maximum contract worth $185 million, ending speculation that the rising free agent could depart this summer.

Contract figures obtained by Keith Smith of the Front Office Show outline the year-by-year payouts:

  • 2026-27: $41.3 million
  • 2027-28: $44.6 million
  • 2028-29: $47.9 million
  • 2029-30: $51.2 million (player option)

The player option in the fourth season gives Reaves the ability to enter free agency again as early as 2029.

According to Smith, the Lakers plan to finalize the deal after they spend their available cap space, preserving flexibility to pursue additional roster upgrades.

Los Angeles moved quickly to complete negotiations amid reports that the Detroit Pistons were preparing to clear room for an aggressive offer sheet. Both Reaves and the organization had publicly expressed interest in extending their partnership.

With Reaves’ contract effectively in place, the front office can turn its attention to bolstering the lineup. The club has already added talent through the NBA Draft, sending cash considerations to the New York Knicks to move up one slot and select Baylor guard Cameron Carr with the 24th overall pick. Carr averaged 18.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and shot 37.4 percent from three-point range last season for the Bears.

The Lakers are expected to complete Reaves’ signing once their other offseason moves are finalized.
