The Los Angeles Lakers entered the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft by acquiring the No. 24 overall pick from the New York Knicks on Tuesday, June 23, and immediately used the selection on Baylor guard Cameron Carr.

The deal gave Los Angeles a mid-first-round choice that originally belonged to New York. Moments after completing the trade, the Lakers called Carr’s name, adding the back-court scorer to a roster that already features veteran stars.

Carr starred at Baylor during the 2025-26 college season and was widely projected as a late first-round prospect. His selection marks the first time the Lakers have drafted a guard from Baylor in the opening round.

New York, which began the night holding the 24th pick, moved out of that slot as part of the agreement. Details of what the Knicks received in return were not announced at the time of the selection.

The transaction was finalized before the league announced the pick, ensuring that Carr’s rights belong to Los Angeles as the draft continues.
