The Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday introduced Micah Nori as the club’s next head coach, finalizing the hire roughly an hour after ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that an agreement had been reached.
General manager Joe Cronin said Nori emerged from a wide-ranging search as the clear choice to guide the franchise. “After an extensive search process, it became clear that Micah embodies the qualities we are looking for in the leader of this franchise,” Cronin said. “He has been a key contributor to successful organizations and brings a wealth of expertise, a proven ability to develop players and an authenticity that aligns with the culture we are building.”
Nori, 50, spent the last five seasons as lead assistant to Chris Finch with the Minnesota Timberwolves. During that span, Minnesota reached multiple postseasons and made back-to-back appearances in the Western Conference Finals. His profile grew during the Timberwolves’ 2024 playoff run, when he took on additional responsibilities after Finch suffered a knee injury.
The veteran coach now inherits a Portland roster centered on a young core. Nori said his discussions with Cronin and team owner Tom Dundon convinced him the job was the right fit. “From my conversations with Tom and Joe, it was evident that there is a strong commitment to building a culture that values accountability, development and team success,” Nori said. “This is a team with tremendous talent, and I’m excited to begin working with our players and staff.”
Before his stint in Minnesota, Nori held coaching roles with the Toronto Raptors, Sacramento Kings, Denver Nuggets and Detroit Pistons. He has spent nearly three decades working in NBA front offices and on coaching staffs.
