A celebration for the New York Knicks’ NBA championship turned chaotic on Friday, June 19, when several fans climbed a parade-route structure to help a fellow reveler who appeared to be overdosing.
Witnesses said the emergency unfolded as thousands lined the streets for the victory parade. Video circulating on social media shows a motionless person slumped on an elevated framework. A handful of bystanders scrambled up the metal supports, secured the individual and guided the person to safety as the crowd looked on.
There was no immediate word on the victim’s identity or condition. Authorities have not released additional details about what substance may have been involved.
The Knicks were holding their first championship parade in decades after winning the NBA Finals earlier this week.
