Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said there was a “real simple” reason the franchise allowed guard Jalen Brunson to leave in free agency and sign with the New York Knicks, according to a report published Tuesday.
Cuban’s brief remark, quoted by the New York Post, addressed a move that has been widely debated since Brunson exited Dallas. The billionaire entrepreneur did not elaborate on details, only characterizing the decision-making process as straightforward.
Brunson’s departure ended a four-year stint with the Mavericks and opened the door for him to take over the Knicks’ backcourt. His move has since become one of the most discussed personnel changes involving either franchise.
Apart from labeling the motive “real simple,” Cuban offered no additional specifics in the comments reported by the Post.
